The Katalyst Conversation began in October 2021 with the "Mondays in October" concert series, featuring Vincent Davis and Ari Brown, at The Katalyst Coffee Lounge and Music Gallery in Chicago. This store, an extension of Katalyst Entertainment, has focused on preserving the AACM tradition of "Great Black Music" for over 30 years. Proprietor Kevin Beauchamp paired Davis and Brown to explore their musical language in a duo context. This laid the foundation for a second series, "Mondays in May," which soon became "The Conversation." Vibraphonist Preyas Roy began hosting Monday jam sessions, attracting musicians from across Chicago. The concept returned in March 2023, featuring Roy and others. In June 2023, Davis, Brown, and Ed Wilkerson performed "The Conversation Continues." These acclaimed musicians, along with Roy, represent the past, present, and future of this musical tradition.
