Original set of Esso War Maps from 1942. Color map of the world 38x82 on sheet 58x84. Dated "942" (September 1942) in bottom right corner of map. Shows airway and shipping distances and time zones. Relief shown pictorially. Prime meridian is Greenwich. Includes index to places, notes on "Transportation--key to victory", inset map "Over the top of the world", showing great circle airways and distances. "Flattening the globe" with map projection by "Mr. O.M. Miller of the American Geographical Society of New York," and color illustrations. On verso includes text sections "Bombs for Berlin ... terror in Tokyo", "Fuel for speed and power", "Getting it there", "War-time lubricants", and others, accompanied by military and industrial illustrations. Great items for map collectors and WWII buffs.
